CASE STUDY ONE - OVERMOLDED CABLE ASSEMBLY
Contour Electronics has a wealth of experience in designing and manufacturing cable assemblies to meet customers differing needs. These incorporate all the industry standard styles of connectors including D, mini-din, din, USB, Firewire, SCSI, DC plugs etc. Often the client requires that the cable assembly has additional features, for example: incorporating logo’s within an overmold, special colours of cable & overmold, idents, strain relief grommets, different levels of screening and the incorporating of electronics within the cable form. Contour Electronics are able to ensure that all these features and benefits are included within the product whilst maintaining product reliability and commercial competitiveness, we are often able to incorporate these features for annual volumes ranging from 100’s off.
The example below shows a custom cable assembly that was designed and tooled for a client who had forecasted annual volumes of 2K-3K pieces. An SMT PCB assembly was incorporated within a custom overmold design. Within the assembly the customers logo was produced within the overmold and their corporate colour was matched for the overmold and cable colour, the cables branched out to several different styles of connector. Each assembly was 100% tested on a bespoke test PC to ensure reliability prior to shipment to the client.
